Thrifty Finds - Little Porcelain Dishes

Who can resist the urge to buy a little trinket whenever they enter a thrift shop? When you're on holiday, and you spot a thrift store, you can't always carry around a stack of old books, or a lovely old Victorian trunk (I had to do that once... big sigh)! But little old dishes, especially with a well-loved blemish or two, are most often affordable and become little souvenirs!

Milkglass, such as this little hobnail cutie, are often found for a few dollars at most (very often, you can find milkglass at garage sales for 50¢)!

This chippy antique flow blue bone dish is a great place to store your beachcombing finds and other little random treasures. This dish holds little oyster shells from a local beach, a vintage rhinestone "L" brooch, some mica I found on a family vacation in the mountains, and a fun old piece of beach glass I found with a complete letter "G" (no doubt part of an old medicinal bottle from back in the day).

I also love using old chippy china as soap dishes! These old bone dishes are especially perfect for setting next to an oval or round shaped sink.

I flipped over my bonedish to reveal this fabulous backstamp. This has gorgeous flow to the blue as well. Then I thought how fun would it be to use it as digital image for collage work, tags, journals...

Voila!
What do you use your little old chippy dishes for?

my new art journals are back!

I've just listed my two newest journals over in my etsy shop! They were such a delight to create!

I can't believe I took such a long break (one year!) from making them.

I think finding all those gorgeous trims at the antique shop last week gave me the inspiration to get going! ;)

I used some antique and vintage linens I'd already had, and paired them with the "new" vintage treasures I found, and voila! ;)

Thank you for looking, and have a wonderful Monday!

inspire!

My recent trips to the antique shop yielded some wonderful results!

These gorgeous Victorian ribbons and laces will keep me busy for days!

I'm pleased as punch I happened to walk in on the right day... two vendors had bumper-crops of old trims!

One seller had bags and bags of trims inside an old washstand... the deeper I reached into the drawer, the better the finds became.

Another seller had an old trunk filled to overflowing with bags and bags and bags of color-coordinated vintage silk and satin ribbons. I wanted to go swimming in it! I couldn't even reach the bottom of the trunk, as the bags were falling onto the floor there was so much in there!

I went back in to my old etsy shop sales this morning, and realized all the journals I sold were back in 2009 and 2010! I didn't make any last year at all! I am overdue!

Stay tuned... once my journals are made and ready to be listed, I'll give you a sneak peak here. (These trims above are old and French... I scored these from Corey's website last year!)
Happy Weekend!

Happy New Year 2012!

Happy New Year!!!

I hope you are all enjoying a wonderful start to the New Year!

I started off the New Year by taking a trip to the local antique co-op with some of my children. Many vendors have great sales this time of year, and I went to look for an old bookcase for our livingroom...

Not only did I find a GORGEOUS vintage 1930's bookcase (for $75!), but I found bags of antique silk and Victorian laces... all for $9! Be still my vintage-lovin' heart!

So I've resolved to start making my vintage linens and trims journals once again, as I did in 2010 (and sold them in my etsy shop). I've posted some of my old journals here.

One bag of Victorian silks contained all beautiful RED SILK RIBBONS! Perfect for upcoming Valentine's Day journals. ;)

It's actually hard to start talking Valentine's Day, when I'm still in the middle of packing away all our Christmas ornaments and decorations!

I've also joined PINTEREST! Once I get my links all working, I'll post my Pinterest page here on my blog.
Happy Monday!
